Kahok Families,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year!

As we gear up for the new school year, we’re excited to share some important dates and information. Teachers return on August 12th, and students will follow on August 14th. We’re thrilled to kick off the school year in just a few days!

On August 7, Collinsville Middle School, Dorris Intermediate School and all elementary school families can access their child’s class schedule/teacher and bus assignments via the Skyward Family Access portal.

  • To view class schedule/teacher assignment, log-in to your account (using your username and password) and access the information via the Schedule Tab (from the menu options on the left).

  • For bus transportation information, on the Student Information screen, click View Bus Schedule to view the assigned bus number, then click View Pickup/Dropoff Bus Stops to see detailed information regarding the bus stop.

Please watch for communication from building principals regarding back-to-school particulars such as Open House and things to expect on the first-day of school.

To stay informed, we encourage everyone to create a ParentSquare account and download the app to your phone. This new communication tool will allow district staff to connect with families in both English and Spanish through various formats. Use THIS LINK for instructions.

Another tool available to families is the FirstView bus tracking app offered by our transportation partner, First Student. The app provides real-time tracking of your child’s bus and the ability to set-up custom alerts and notifications. Information is posted on the Transportation page of the district website.  A Quick Start Guide (English & Spanish) is attached.

Our summer has been incredibly productive. The central office staff and building administrators have been busy interviewing and hiring new staff for the upcoming school year. Meanwhile, the Building and Grounds Department has been hard at work completing and overseeing numerous projects across the district. We look forward to our students, families and communities meeting our new staff members, seeing improvements made over the summer at CHS, CMS and Kreitner Elementary, and getting their first look at the new Caseyville Elementary School.

Each year, the district monitors the short and long-term goals created by our community, along with goals established by the Board of Education. These objectives help guide our decisions, ensuring consistency in the services provided, while focusing on continuous improvement. Please take a few minutes to review the attached goals documents with our accomplishments and improvements over the past year.

Refer to the attached Open House schedule to mark your calendars for Open House events at each school.  We want to see all students and families participate. Fall extracurricular activities are also starting soon.  Make plans to attend the Fall Kahok Kickoff on August 23rd at 5:00 p.m. at Collinsville High School to preview our fall sports teams before their season begins.

In closing, we are excited to start the school year and look forward to supporting your child’s academic and social growth over the next 10 months. Our students’ success is built on a strong partnership between home and school.  Therefore, if you have any questions, concerns or celebrations to share, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or principal.

Have a fantastic school year, and don’t forget to wear purple as much as possible, especially on Fridays!

Mark B. Skertich, Ed.D.
