At their regular monthly meeting on September 21, 2026, the CUSD 10 Board of Education honored CHS senior Daniel Gutierrez-Trejo for being accepted to serve on the ISBE Student Advisory Council.
Council members are selected through a competitive application process that includes written responses and interviews. Students are selected based on their leadership experience, communication skills, commitment to service and interest in improving educational opportunities for all Illinois students.
In addition to his position on the ISBE Student Advisory Council, Daniel Gutierrez-Trejo serves as the Illinois state representative for the National Student Council, president of the CHS STEM Club and captain of his cross country team. During his free time, he enjoys volunteering in his community, hiking and running. After high school, he plans to pursue the pre-med track and become a general surgeon.
Illinois State Board of Education Student Advisory Council
The Student Advisory Council provides a forum for students to engage directly with ISBE leadership, discuss issues affecting their schools and communities, and develop recommendations on policies and initiatives that impact Illinois students. Council members serve as student representatives and advocates, helping ensure student voices are reflected in statewide education conversations.
Throughout the school year, council members will meet regularly with ISBE staff and leadership, collaborate with fellow student leaders, research key education issues, and present recommendations on topics affecting students both inside and outside the classroom. |
