Kahok Nation,

Life really never slows down, and that is more and more apparent with each passing year. Keeping that in mind, please mark your calendars for Parent/Teacher Conferences on October 29 and 30. While these dates are still more than a month away, they will be here before we know it, so plan now to attend.  We would like to see each child’s parent/guardian.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is new and continues to evolve quicker than we can keep up. As we learn and use this new technology, we want to ensure our students and families understand how to use AI in an appropriate and responsible manner. We also want to help students avoid actions that may not support learning or may be inappropriate when using AI outside of school.

Attached you will find our district guidelines as well as guides for students in grades K-4 and 5-12.  Please review this information, discuss with your child, and if you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s school.

Homecoming Week

Homecoming Week next week! Please mark your calendars for the following events:

  • Mr. Homecoming: September 23 at 7:00 p.m. in CHS Auditorium

  • Homecoming Parade: September 24 at 4:30 p.m. on Main Street Collinsville

  • Football Game: September 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Kahok Stadium

  • CHS Homecoming Dance: September 26 at 7:00 PM

Let’s show school spirit by turning out to enjoy the week’s activities.  It’s a great opportunity to show our Kahok Pride!

CAVC Expansion and Renovation

In the spring of 2023, the State of Illinois appropriated $25 million for the expansion and renovation of the Collinsville Area Vocational Center (CAVC). In April 2024, $8 million of this funding was allocated to CUSD #10 through an Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) grant. In June 2026, another $8 million was allocated to CUSD #10 through DCEO.

These monies have funded the project to date and while an additional release is still needed for the completion of the new facility and to renovate the existing CAVC, the building has begun welcoming students.

While this is exciting, there are still areas being completed and once those are wrapped up, the district and CAVC will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on Friday, October 30th.  Please watch for more information.

Thank you for your constant dedication to our students and don’t forget to wear your purple while having an amazing time at the Italian Fest this weekend!

Mark B. Skertich, Ed.D.
